Microsoft Exchange Servers Clustering

Microsoft Exchange Servers Clustering

Microsoft Exchange Server is a software product for mail exchange and collaborative work within an enterprise. Success of any company very much depends upon technologies increasing efficiency of its users. Exchange makes available all up-to-date means of cooperation – email system, voice messages, instant messages, and so on, giving access to them from any PC, web-browsers or mobile devices. This helps to increase both individual and company performance substantially.

Exchange Server 2010 offers a wide range of ways to store your data and allows adjusting the Exchange infrastructure to the specific business requirements of any company. Now Exchange supports various data storage devices, from traditional Storage Area Networks (SAN) to low-price Direct Attached Storages (DAS).

Servers clustering is a wonderful way to enhance the availability of your Exchange Servers. Servers clustering offers the failover support and high availability for your mission-critical applications and services running on Exchange Server.

In Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 clustering is provided at the level of database. This means that only failed databases need to failover, while the rest of them stay available. Exchange Server 2010 offers the only technology – DAG substituting SCR, LCR, and CCR available in the previous versions of this software. DAG is an abbreviation for database availability group. In every DAG several databases can be hosted on a mailbox server. Major DAG benefits include providing database level high availability support for up to sixteen copies of each database.

Database availability groups don’t contain active and passive nodes. Every server in a DAG can include both active and passive databases. Exchange Server 2010 also allows defining which databases will be replicated to which mailbox server in the DAG. Database availability groups can be distributed between the subnets. This approach allows locating servers in local and distant data centers.

Exchange Server 2010 provides numerous benefits to its users. It offers flexibility of deployment taking into account individual needs of a company. Flexibility and reliability of Exchange Server 2010 are reached thanks to the innovative technologies that demonstrate increased performance, and scalability, and result in the considerable reduction of TCO.
